Start Midway!

As January comes to a close, I think it’s often easy to feel down about the ways we perhaps haven’t hit our new year’s resolutions, or to feel like “it’s too late” and “I’ll just wait until next month or next year to start these new goals I want to achieve.”

Even on a daily basis, I often find myself thinking “I’ll start this later because I don’t have enough time right now” or “I’ll do better tomorrow.” While I love how a new day offers us a fresh start, I think recently I’ve been embracing (and wanting to embrace more) the idea of starting midway!

I think my often perfectionistic tendencies sometimes lead me to procrastinate if I can’t fully finish a task or “do it well” during the time period I have that day. I remember once hearing at Church that sometimes our perfectionistic tendencies can lead to indecisiveness too, and I really resonated with that (questions like “what would be best to do now?” or “what should I eat?” or “should I volunteer in this class discussion if there’s already been a response since the point was brought up?”).

So the other day, I felt this urge to write and live out the idea of starting midway. This month, I have been pretty good about hitting my new year’s resolutions so far (yay!) but definitely can continue to improve. But, something I was happy I did was I continued to add resolutions and good habits I want to build, even in the middle of the month! I picked up a “no Youtube” rule (except for like once a week on a weekend) to be more intentional with my time at night and to be intentional with my breaks as well. Just recently I added a “start the day with a little apple cidar vinegar” (diluted with water of course) and am trying a no yogurt/granola/toppings cleanse (I found I often got this at the dining hall and think for me personally right now having self-control in this area and taking a little break would be beneficial). So if there are goals you didn’t add to your new year’s resolutions list, or things you want to do, I encourage you to just get up and take a baby step today towards that life you want to live! :)

I also want to apply this mentality to doing work. Too often, I think I sometimes “waste” time because I think “oh, I only have twenty minutes until I have to leave.” I get too scared to just open something and become consumed in it, to the point where I sometimes passively pass time. I want to embrace every minute of the day, and even if I just have five minutes or less, to use them wisely. Here’s to starting work even if I can’t finish it in one period and hopefully picking up a book during spare time rather than doing “busy work” (emails, responding to things, etc.) that ends up taking much longer than it should.

So here’s to starting midway! :) Let’s embrace the fresh starts we have but also get excited for the opportunity to begin anything at any point! It really only takes a change of perspective/attitude. :)

Saved by grace, through faith.

With love,

Bible verse connection: “Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.” Proverbs 12:11 Let’s trust in the plans God has for us through the tough times (perhaps when we question why our work isn’t working), knowing that His plans are often greater than we can imagine! But let’s also remember to work hard and smart for His glory and in a way that honors Him!

P.S. This photo is from when a couple friends and I went into center city for restaurant week last semester! :) So fun (and yummy) hehe!
