Something that’s been on my mind pretty recently as I’m on winter break is how I self care. I’m lowkey not sure if that’s the right way to use the phrase but I think you all know what I’m tryna say haha
So I looked up what “self care” means. Google says the following: the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s health. In a sub bullet point, it says: the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.
In part, I definitely agree with this definition. Taking the initiative to improve one’s state of mind and being. But why does it have to be during periods of stress? Why can’t it be done every day? Because it’s easy to neglect our self and not take care of who we are until we hit a rock and hit rock bottom. Because there’s so many things going on and our minds are full, our hands are always at work, and we tire and wore ourselves out until we hit a certain point where we can’t do it any longer. And then we realize we haven’t been taking care of ourselves. Both spiritually and mentally.
I think this is definitely what I’d like to improve upon during this new year and going forwards. I want to take care of myself and live the life that I want to live. Why should I wait until I hit rock bottom to realize that oh, I haven’t been looking out for my state of mind?
So no more waiting. Let’s dive right into this :)
1. I believe it is so important to start off the day on the right foot with reading the Bible and meditating on His word. It gives you something to look forward to in the morning, something that’ll inspire you for the rest of the day, and simply put you in the right mindset and in the right mood.
2. Write out your gratitudes. This doesn’t have to be everyday because most likely your gratitudes will remain the same for a bit of time (but if they change everyday, go for it!) But simply thinking about what you’re thankful for in whatever stage in life helps you put things into perspective and makes you realize the small things that you may have missed, which can completely change the way you think for the better. I started my gragra column (LOL) and honestly, it’s made me so much more thankful and appreciative for what God has given me.
3. Get some face masks hehe This is so relaxing, so refreshing, just so amazing, everyone should be using it more! It makes your face smooth, it lets you cool down and relax, nothing like feeling like you’re at a spa, even at home. I looked into this just a little because it’s so interesting, and it refines your skin pores (meaning your skin can become cleaner) and increases hydration, bringing more moisture to dry and dehydrated skin types. Just one thing to keep in mind is that sometimes, depending on the mask, you can use it everyday but most of the time, 1-3 times a week is recommended.
It’s soooo not fun doing face masks alone too- grab someone to do them with!! Hey Joyce, ya ready to do many many many facemaks together??? Hehehehe
^^just a facemask I did with one of my closest friends back at home
Actually one of them is just a filter- can you tell which one??
4. Hey ya gals out there! LOL sorry guys. I never realized how therapeutic this was until I did it for the first time in who knows how long. Paint ya own nails. I know when using your non-dominant hand it can be a little difficult and frustrating, but once you get so used to it, it’ll make you feel so proud that you are just a little bit closer to being ambidextrous :) And after, it makes you feel great too. More composed, put together, wow! Changing things up can really make or break your whole mood and perspective.
For we live by faith, not by sight.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship.
